Holland & Hart Counsels Duke Energy in Purchase of Vestas Wind Turbines for New Large-Scale Wind Projects

Holland & Hart Counsels Duke Energy in Purchase of Vestas Wind Turbines for New Large-Scale Wind Projects
Holland & Hart LLP is pleased to announce that Duke Energy Renewables, a commercial business unit of Duke Energy, has contracted with Vestas Wind Systems to purchase approximately 400 megawatts (MW) of wind turbines for delivery to the Los Vientos III and Los Vientos IV Windpower Projects in south Texas.  The order represents Vestas’s largest individual wind turbine order globally since 2010.

Stephanie Edinger, partner in Holland & Hart’s Energy & Infrastructure practice group, served as lead counsel to Duke Energy Renewables on the turbine supply agreements and full-scope service agreements.

Tax attorney Adam Cohen also advised on tax matters related to the transaction, including the applicability of the federal Production Tax Credit.

Duke Energy Renewables will build, own and operate the Los Vientos III and Los Vientos IV Windpower Projects, sited approximately 100 miles west of Brownsville, Texas. Each project will produce 200 MW of emissions-free electricity, enough to collectively power about 120,000 homes.
