Colorado Governor Appoints Holland & Hart's Christina Gomez to the Colorado Court of Appeals

Colorado Gov. Polis appointed Holland & Hart partner Christina Gomez to the Colorado Court of Appeals, effective February 25, 2020.

A seasoned appellate practitioner and litigator, over the course of her career Gomez has handled hundreds of appeals spanning a broad range of issues, including constitutional challenges, environmental, tax, administrative, banking, bankruptcy and foreclosure, contracts, employment, insurance, probate, and family law matters before state and federal appellate courts as well as the U.S. Supreme Court. Gomez has served as chair of the firm’s Appellate Practice Group since 2017.

“On behalf of the firm, I would like to extend our congratulations to Christina on her appointment to serve as a judge on the Colorado Court of Appeals,” said Maureen Reidy Witt, the firm’s Commercial Litigation Practice Group Leader. “She is a well-respected member of the appellate community in Colorado and nationwide and highly regarded by judges and advocates alike for her creative arguments and persuasive advocacy. Christina exemplifies our firm’s core values through her dedication to delivering excellent, innovative service to clients, her unfailing support of colleagues, and her genuine commitment to diversity and inclusion. She will be greatly missed,” added Reidy Witt.

In addition to building a successful appellate practice, Gomez has been extensively involved in and dedicated significant time throughout her legal career to pro bono work. She served on the committee that developed the Colorado Bar Association’s Appellate Pro Bono Program, has chaired the program’s screening committee since its inception in 2010, and chairs the Appellate Pro Bono Task Force that has worked to expand pro bono offerings in Colorado's appellate courts. Additionally, she has devoted hundreds of hours representing clients on a pro bono basis, allowing those who otherwise could not afford counsel to pursue civil rights, constitutional claims, parental rights, and other issues.

Gomez is author of two chapters in the Colorado Appellate Handbook, co-editor of the Appellate Practice Column in The Colorado Lawyer, and co-chair of the Colorado Bar Association’s annual Appellate Practice Update CLE. Gomez currently serves as Administrative Partner for Holland & Hart’s Denver office. She also is an active member of both the firm's women's initiative (which she previously co-chaired for three years) and the firm's diversity committee.
