Rachel Carnaggio Receives USPTO Pro Bono Certificate of Recognition

Holland & Hart’s Denver patent attorney Rachel Carnaggio received a Patent Pro Bono Certificate of Recognition from the USPTO for her support of the Pro Bono Patent (ProBoPat) Program, presented at the 2019 ProBoPat Volunteer & Donor Appreciation event on Feb. 13. This recognition is presented to attorneys and patent agents who donate 50 or more hours to a pro bono patent program.

Rachel has been involved with the ProBoPat Program for six years and is among those recognized for helping make the ProBoPat Program available to financially under-resourced inventors and small businesses. She regularly handles a number of pro bono cases each year and was recognized this year for her contributions working with a blind inventor who developed a navigation system for the visually impaired.

“In the ProBoPat Program, I help low-income inventors who do not have the resources to protect their inventions and do not have access to certain business opportunities,” said Rachel Carnaggio. “For many of these inventors, obtaining a patent is a defining moment in their life. It is rewarding for me to make that kind of difference in someone else’s life.”

In practice, Rachel’s dual experience as a molecular and cellular biologist and intellectual property attorney brings unique value to her clients. She delivers sophisticated counsel to clients in various industries, including the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device, and digital health industries. She helps clients develop protective strategies, including creating, prosecuting, managing, and enforcing patents. Drawing on her extensive technical expertise, Rachel also analyzes existing patents and provides sound advice to clients considering options to pursue or defend patent infringement litigation.

The ProBoPat Program, a program provided by Mi Casa Resource Center, seeks to connect low-income inventors who are residents of Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming with patent practitioners for patent application preparation and prosecution legal services on a pro bono basis, as well as to provide access to general business consulting, training, and other resources for bringing new ideas to market.
