Steven T. Collis Quoted in Law360 on High Court's Review of Religious Bias Cases

Steven T. Collis, a civil litigator who also chairs Holland & Hart’s nationwide Religious Institutions and First Amendment group, was quoted in Law360’s March 26 article titled “High Court May Make Religious Bias Cases Harder To Defeat.” The article discusses the possibility of the U.S. Supreme Court reviewing a worker’s request for a religious accommodation and what the standard should be for such accommodations under Title VII.

The statute requires employers to provide “reasonable accommodations” to employees whose religious duties conflict with their work duties. But, the article explains, under previous Supreme Court precedent, employers need not provide those religious accommodations as long as they can show that doing so will result in a “de minimis” burden. “There's a lot of debate out there as to whether or not that standard makes sense," Collis explains. "And it appears the Justices may have found the case they need to revisit it."
