Holland & Hart is pleased to announce that Alex Grande, an associate in Holland & Hart's Boise, Idaho office, has been selected as a 2022 recipient of the Denise O'Donnell Day Pro Bono Award by the Idaho State Bar (ISB). This award is presented to at least one attorney in each of Idaho’s seven judicial districts who has donated extraordinary time and effort to provide pro bono services to clients in the community.
Alex has been involved in myriad pro bono cases during her tenure at Holland & Hart, ranging from matters of assisting clients in real estate swindles, conducting liability analysis for a local non-profit, representing families in adoption proceedings, managing U-Visa applications, and defending an elderly couple who had been harassed with frivolous litigation spanning more than 12 years.
In recent years, she has focused her pro bono efforts on behalf of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and has recruited and guided several non-litigators in our office through the process of representing clients at hearings. Her other significant pro bono work has been on behalf of clients instituting or defending child abduction proceedings under the 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction in the United States. She has worked on several Hague Convention cases in Idaho, including two representing Mexican fathers whose children had allegedly been wrongfully taken from their home country and wrongfully retained in Caldwell, ID, and in Nampa, ID, and in another representing a mother in a Ninth Circuit appeal in defending a petition filed to return her daughter to Italy.
Outside of her pro bono efforts, Alex counsels clients on a range of complex employment and commercial disputes. She advises clients through all phases of the employment relationship from hiring to termination, guides them through state and federally regulated workforce compliance issues, and represents them in court and before federal and state agencies to resolve claims. She also advises clients in a broad array of business litigation.
Alex is an active member of the Idaho State Bar Litigation and Employment Sections, Idaho Women Lawyers, and the Employment Law Alliance. She serves on the boards of Jesse Tree and Friends of Children and Families, Inc, and is the Treasure Valley Representative for the College of Idaho National Alumni Board.
Alex will be presented with the Denise O'Donnell Day Pro Bono Award at the ISB’s District Resolution Meeting in the fall and will be featured in the 2022 ISB Annual Meeting Awards publication.
