Holland & Hart Partners Named 2023 Lawdragon Leaders in Environmental Law

Holland & Hart is pleased to announce that partners Jim Spaanstra, Jon Katchen, and Tom Sansonetti have been recognized in the 2023 Lawdragon Green 500: Leaders in Environmental Law guide for Environmental Law & Natural Resources.

This guide highlights 500 US lawyers who “represent the remarkable breadth amassed in environmental law” and are “fighting to protect the environment, and help clients build more sustainable businesses.” Honorees were selected from journalistic research, submissions by firms and clients, and editorial vetting with peers and environment law experts.

Jim Spaanstra, a partner in the firm’s Denver office, provides clients sound environmental counsel on complex permitting regimes and guidance to navigate the energy transition. He counsels energy and natural resource clients on permitting, compliance, and environmental enforcement matters. Clients benefit from Jim’s extensive experience permitting complex projects in the Mountain West involving complicated environmental issues. He leverages this experience to help companies build defensible permitting records and remain in compliance with ever-changing environmental regulatory regimes.

Jon Katchen, a partner in the firm’s Anchorage office, leverages extensive state government experience and sophisticated knowledge of Alaska's resource and economic development opportunities to help energy industry clients achieve their business goals. His practice focuses on natural resources project development, defense of governmental and citizen enforcement actions, and complex commercial litigation. He also counsels investors and resource development companies regarding economic development opportunities in Alaska.

Tom Sansonetti, a partner in the firm’s Cheyenne, Denver, and Washington, DC offices, is a longtime litigator and project team leader. Before a lawsuit can threaten a project, he counsels clients on how to develop effective plans of action that will meet government environmental permitting requirements and stand up to judicial scrutiny when those clients' projects are challenged in court. Tom served as an Assistant Attorney General for the Environment and Natural Resources Division in the Department of Justice and as the Solicitor at the Department of the Interior.

Holland & Hart’s nationally recognized environmental law team of more than 100 attorneys develops solutions that enable clients to successfully operate within complex and evolving regulatory frameworks.
