He represents nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations including charities, private foundations, and trade associations, assisting them with the qualification and maintenance of exempt status and in legal audits when necessary. Additionally, John's practice includes federal tax controversy and litigation, charitable planning for individuals and organizations, and estate planning.
As a former attorney with the IRS Office of Chief Counsel, he advised, trained, and represented the IRS on all levels of tax audits, litigation, and tax collection, and served as a member and leader of several national and regional cadres focused on tax collection and cannabis matters.
Prior to joining Holland & Hart, John worked as an associate for Kirton McConkie. During law school, he served as a judicial intern for the Utah State Tax Commission.
