Matt represents corporations and individuals before the US Tax Court, federal district courts, and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Independent Office of Appeals. Matt’s cases and controversies typically involve high-stakes disputes pertaining to transfer pricing and other international tax issues, valuation of closely held entities and controlled foreign corporations, derivative financial instruments, and penalty abatement.
Prior to joining Holland & Hart, Matt served 20 years in the US Army in both the Armor branch and The Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps in a variety of positions ranging from tank platoon leader, to federal prosecutor, to general counsel. Matt’s significant litigation background and experience as a high-level legal advisor provides a unique depth of perspective that makes him a valuable asset to clients.
